Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Transfer case fluid changed. Now im worried.

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

For a long time I thought it was an abbreviation for Barry Grant (the carb guy). Not so apparently.
I own too many vehicles now. Let's leave it at that.

Sorry to annoy you roadie with the whole ordeal. My reciept shows two quarts of AT2. And I seen them bring out 2 quarts of what from a distance looked like AT2 when they drained it again. But I have zero trust in this dealer now and am wondering if they even changed out the fluid. I'm debating buying the fluid and doing it myself. There is a coating of clearish fluid on the front of my gas tank next to the t case and on the underside of my cab... I'm assuming this is maybe from the flushing process. I drove down my side street (in a straight line) for about a mile in 4x4 and it seemed fine but this still does not really prove much. According to bg's website their t case fluid is a direct substitute for AT2.

you could open the fill plug and dip your finger in it and see if the fluid is blue, that is the color of autotrac 2

I feel like an idiot creating a huge ruccus on the sight and upsetting so many people. I will be testing it at the fill plug but the problem is that the guy told me the bg fluid they used is also blue.

Please don't IN ANY WAY think this is upsetting. We're angry FOR you and AT the dealer. We hear about abuses like this about dealers and other chain maintenance shops monthly.

I don't see that you upset anyone here, if you upset us you'd know it without any doubt. It sucks to see people get taken advantage of. After I had to fix my own stuff for awhile, and then started making enough money to pay someone to do it, after I talked to them, I realized they were frequently full of it. The end result is that I continued fixing my own stuff.

I think Donny was saying if you don't use A4WD... and you shouldn't, you should be fine. You can change it or not, choice is up to you. If you decide to do it there's a simple write up here.

This is funny cause they just told me about "flushing" a front and rear diff at the auto shop I work at part time. Now I used to do this full time and I did lube/general service for almost 5 years straight and never once heard of flushing a gearbox. Seems to me all you could do is pull the drain and fill plugs and pour fluid through which isn't really gonna do much.

So when I got home from work today I took the fill plug out and blue fluid started to drip out. It seemed really thin compared to what I would imagine but I guess that's how AT2 is. I then noticed that the whole rear half of the case was coated in a amberish fluid as well as the underbody around it and front end of my gas tank. It was pretty wet and I can't imagine it was from the case previously leaking because it had rained very hard the day before I got the fluid changed so I imagine that if it were leaking it would have been washed off a bit. It looked as though the fluid had been slung everywhere by the shaft spinning. So my only guess is that it was the flushing fluid that got on the shaft and it shot it everywhere. I dried it all of and ill be checking for leaks. Another question is whether or not the case has low fluid level sensor or not.

There are no low fluid level sensors in the transfer case, differentials, transmission, coolant, or engine oil.

GM only felt it was necessary to give us one in the windshield washer tank.

Root cause: Designers obeying management orders to design stuff for cheap-ass consumers who nowadays think of a car as a sealed unit never needing fluid maintenance outside the fuel tank..

What I was told at one point by a BG rep was it stood for bearings and gears. I took his word for since that's what the BG logo is a picture of.

I'd love to see the old BDS calendars from when they said it stood for "Big Dick Suspensions".

(Yes, I actually know it was Big Dick's Suspensions and there was a guy named Dick.)

Not gonna lie... (Bill's gonna slap me for this)

First time i changed TC fluid, the local GM stealership was out of AT II, and i went to O'Reilly and got RP Syncromax. Probably ran that for about 30k miles w/o a signle issue, but I was never super comfy about it.

And yes, I've replaced it since with AT II.
