What do you mean by a tsb? Sorry if this is a stupid question I'm just now 20 and I'm trying to get my truck nice and make sure it isn't a lemon at the same time before I sink too much money into it.
bartonmd wrote:The cold tick is very likely piston slap. Very common with the 5.3L of that era.
The tick later on? Is it a once-a-cycle thing, or more than that? The injectors do make some clicking, and sometimes the tensioner can click or make some noise as it moves around.

TSB = Technical Service Bulletin
Basically a heads-up distributed to GM dealer service centers informing them of known issues.

A TSB is different than a recall. A recall would involve service provided for free by GM. A TSB is informational only.
If you had a newer TB still covered under the 5yr/100K warranty, and the slap was bad, you might get something done. Might.
Just let it go. Not much you can do about it. It's made it 100K so far without blowing up, it will probably last for awhile.
bartonmd wrote:Yeah, there are all kinds of 5.3's out there that piston-slapped from day 1, with 250k+ miles on them, and other than burning some oil from it, it's not a big deal.
