I would like to know what the extra nozzle cost?

If you want 2 cans and a nozzle, I'll split another set with you (minus maybe $10 for the nozzle, which is $18 by itself)

These aren't all for off-roading... Some are for storage for a genset... Power goes out for a day at a time where I am, once a year or so... Nice to keep the freezers cold, phones charged, interwebs, etc...

Mike

Genset would be nice, my dad just picked up a nice one for a real good price, well I did, but for him. All I got is a little old coleman, but it gives some power if the lines go down.

What's the issue with the CARB compliant nozzles?

The biggest issue is that the aren't long enough... they're meant for a tank with a filler hole on top... such as a lawn mower.

They don't seem to fit right with our tank, unless you sorta contort the can and angle the filler thing right...

The Carb rules also state that if the can is tipped over, nothing spills.

So the nozzle has to have pressure applied towards it to open up the internal gate. Just an overall PITA.

I wonder if you can modify them to make them CARB-uncompliant.

The Roadie wrote:I swear by the molded Scepters that I bought pre-ban. I think I have 6 of them - now worth $75-80 each because Scepter (Canada) totally abandoned the US market after the CARB issues. Not just spout and locking issues, but plastic permeability. Since you can drop them out of helicopters, they might also be useful to stack for climbing ledges.

OT Hint: Don't forget your spare can be driven over to help get up a ledge if you don't have bridging ladders.

Not 100% accurate actually. I believe that Scepter will still sell to dealers - they never had a retail presence in the first place. Its the dealers who cannot sell to the public (US Federal Law), but can sell to military. (I think 98% of Scepter's sales were military in any case so they are still rolling in the dough ... no incentive to re-tool the factories for CARB compliancy).

Luckily, we can still buy the product in Canada, but the local retailers cannot ship to the US without proper military identification. A not-so-good byproduct of this though is that they have discontinued the red cans, so you can buy any colour now, as long as its Olive Drab.

Here's the product page:

And here are some distributors:

Not to jack the thread, but i can see how much I can get some cans for today, with me being military I can order just about anything. Also a good place to look would be any army surplus store (ranger joes....etc..) I actually have to order some in the next week or so for my generator on my sattelite trailer. So ill check price and let you know.

I just looked into it, and our supplier can only sell them to us with our unit credit card. Sorry, thought they would sell to me cash.... the only way they will do that is if a hurricane comes through, and i hope that doesnt happen. But i did find 2 nice ones at the surplus store right off base... $10 a pair. He said he will call me if they get anymore in, but said they are harder and harder to come by.

You can make a couple of bucks selling those here or on expeditionportal.com. Pre-ban Scepters offered for $60-70 usually start a feeding frenzy.

Got my set last night... I have not filled them yet, but they did all gasp for air when I opened them, so I'm guessing they're sealed...

Just got the last one... $18+shipping, because the cap keeper is broken (the little strap that keeps you from losing the cap when you unscrew it)

Thanks Bill!

I just noticed... no mention of nozzles and the one they sell on the site doesn't fit. Where is anybody supposed to get a nozzle for these?

Hmmm... they're still cheaper than the CA-legal Wedco / Briggs&Stratton jerrycans that you can get at Checkers.

I'm in for 2 of the 4 if anyone in the area is interested. I like the siphon idea... saw it in action at TECORE, worked well
