Other than Bill running the Icons, I believe Mike was the only one running 89s.

I can't see 89's being a death sentence for suspension components. I ran my 88's with no armor/bumper/winch for quite awhile and the ride was firm, but not jarring. With my added weight, I can squish the 88s to the bumpstops without much trouble. A lot of the bumper/armor combos that people have on here are heavier than mine.

I think Mike's problems are isolated... and probably due to prior collision damage. I'd try the 89's if they were my only choice.
I own too many vehicles now. Let's leave it at that.

You can always cut half a coil off the top of the spring to keep from topping out all the time.

that's kinda what I had in mind, I've seen it mentioned a couple times, but I haven't found anyone that's done it yet, I guess someone has to be the first. From what i've seen even with the 89s there shouldn't be any cv joint issues. I'm finding less and less reasons to not use the 89s.
I drove my firebird as a daily driver with rod ended suspension at every link and was fine with it and it has 650lb springs. So I don't think the ride will be too stiff with the 89s as long as I'm not topping out the shocks. Not quite an apple to orange comparison, but still. lol

The big question is what are you pairing the 89s with.

You could also use the 1.5" smaxx spacers inside the assembly instead of the full 2" that everyone else does. Or use no inside of strut spacers, only the extra shims. I would imagine that setup in front with only z71 rear springs would level out nicely and be able to handle some decent weight without sagging.

I guess that is one thought, I think Mike Peters is running Mark's ~3 inch lift. A 1.5 or 2 inch might not be so bad.

i've got marks 3" spacers sitting here, if necessary i can get the top spring spacer from rough country for the rear, but i think it's going to be in the ball park of level.
the guys that were using the 89s said things settle after a couple hundred miles and they didn't need to cut the spring. But i'm thinking I might anyway.
Fishsticks and hardtrailz didn't have a problem with the 88s and since the effective height between the 89s and 88s is less than an 1/8"' and the spring rate is only 3n/mm difference i have a hard time imagining it'll be a problem. Obviously it'll be underdamped and stiff, but i think most of us are in that camp.
I could of course be completely wrong.

Mike was thinking that his TB might have been in a previous accident and that something was tweaked that may have added to his situation. There is no proof but that is kind of where folks are leaning.

Just for grins, I called the local Chevy house about this part number...the parts guy was really shocked to find it wasn't available anywhere. His only suggestion was to hit up the salvage yards looking for 03 and newer TB, Envoys, and Rainiers.

Good luck with that even. I don't think anyone has listed anything close to that on our vehicles.
