Has anyone ever ran 285/75R16 with the GU6 and no Tranny cooler?

I wouldnt suggest it. At least run it with a transmission cooler and aluminum wheels.

I'm running 265/75R16 with 3.42 gears, did over 240 miles highway miles today with out an issue. I stopped several time to check the tranny fluid, the dip stick was warm to the touch but not so hot that I could not touch it. And I even grip it tightly in my hand. With that said I do have plans to install a transmission cooler and fluid temp gauge.

This is the cooler I purchased

I recommend a trans cooler and a gauge for anyone. (truck always had the cooler) but after having the temp gauge, I don't know how I lived without it.

You can use any universal cooler that comes with an install kit and you can get good sized ones for like $30-50 bucks. Or you can go top of the line racing cooler with braided lines and spend a whole lot more like Moots.

Because that is scientific...

Mine too.
I ran 3.42 + 33"s for about a year before I installed a xmsn cooler... I just about destoyed my original trans doing it (Lots of long road trips to and from trails, plus a CA to FL trip). If you're going to run that combo (which I dont recommend) a xmsn cooler will only delay the inevitable. Kinda like using a garden hose on a forest fire...

3.42+285= Overheated Trans

I ran without a trans cooler for about year also. Not a smart idea.

I've got 255/70-16's and 3.42's currently. With a loaded truck of camping gear, and 70ish ambient air temp, I was hitting as high as 217 tranny temp, at highway speeds. At least according to Torque, I was. I plan on bigger tires, nothing bigger than 31's, but holding out till I can get my 3.73's installed, and a tranny cooler.

I found a B&M super cooler on Ebay for 57. I am gonna order it and install it before I get my 285s. While running my 265s I haven't had a problem with it and the trans has been running around 210-220. Kevin (Wink) who built you Front bumper? Its one of the best I have seen.

I think I bought one from Advance Auto for about $30 somethin'.

Read his build thread; it's an MDB bumper.

I also just ordered my trans cooler off ebay. Is there anything that I should do before I get 33's so I don't go bomb while driving.
