Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Any muffler recommendations?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

It's time for a new cat back exhaust. The muffler has a hole in it and the resonator got crushed from the last time I went offroad.

I found a few options.

AutoZone: cheap but, well cheap.

dealer: $1500 or so. stupid.

JBA and Gibson look pretty good and priced around 300-500 depending on aluminized or stainless.

JBA has a high flow muffler and a small resonator, the Gibson only a muffler which would solve the ground clearance issue I had in that creek bed.

Borla: to much.

I'm looking for an exhaust that is quite just like the stock one. Anyone have any experience with the Gibson or JBA or any other that might be out there? I'm sure they are louder than stock but how much resonance is there compared to stock?

Any feedback would be appreciated. I searched this forum and didn't see anything that would be a quiet system.

If anyone has a used cat back (4.2L short wb) that is in good condition I would consider buying it from you.
Or you were looking for a good excuse to get rid of yours and upgrade, this might be a good time to do it.

thanks everyone

300-500 just for the catbacks!? Seems a bit pricey. I paid $230 for magnaflow catbacks, including labor. I think unless your hoping to get an insane amount of power or put some sweet stickers on, anything non-knock-off should do. Don't worry about replacing resonator... obviously.

you could do like I did for my new audio receiver.
Call around to several local shops, tell them what you want/need.
See what they recommend and get the prices. You might find that several shops all recommend the same muffler. It is likely after talking to them you just feel more comfortable with one shop over the rest and go that route. Unless they are shops you are familiar with (or have other references) look them up on BBB or Angie's list to see if they have many bad reviews.

The last time I had to replace a muffler, I could get a local shop to do it cheaper than I could buy the muffler.

I'd just buy a muffler and weld it in. I wouldn't really dick around with a Catback system but that's just me. I'd like Chris said call around and see.

I bought my Hooker Aerochamber and a tip off ebay. Took it to local shop and said put them on. Ran all new pipe from catback and total I had less than 200 in it and sounds great for an I6.

After 4 years of abuse it is time for a new muffler and I got a Magnaflow to try, just debating single or dual exit before having them weld it in.
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.
