Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Engine temp hit 225, tranny 235..

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

I wasn't doing anything out of the normal-- typical city driving. Fans are working, no typical signs of overheating. I know our engines run hotter than other engines, but the tranny temp is what's worrying me. When should I start worrying?

up to 220 is okay. ideal i'd say is below 200. 225+ i'd start worrying, but then again mine used to hit 249 on a hot day. I'm also runnin 33" on 3.42 gears and at the time had no xmsn cooler

You're fine. Trans within 10-15F of what the engine temp is, is actually pretty good for the I6. At long as the trans stays under 240F, absolutely nothing to worry about. Above that, it's a "time above temp" thing. More specifically, a "work above temp" thing. You can idle all day long with the trans sump temp at 240F and it's no problem, because the fluid isn't getting much higher. However, if you're towing a trailer in the mountains and the sump temp is 240F, the temp out of the TC to the cooler is likely close to 300F, which really starts to oxidize fluid. Idling in traffic, no big deal.

I see, thanks. I monitor the temps regularly and they normally stay between 180-200 for both, so this came as a surprise. Appreciate it.

What was ambient? I'm pretty sure I've hit 215-220 driving around Phoenix in 100+ weather, especially if I'm reving up the engine.

87-90 with humidity around the same %.

I wouldn't be terribly worried. I see similar temps with my big gay bumper when I'm on the highway and the AC is on full blast under similar ambient temps. No AC keeps temps normal for me.
I'd probably start looking at a tranny cooler in the near future (I plan on getting one soon). But it's not necessary.

c'mon now, you're better than that. If that's your pic, there is some context needed.

you are running a 33 (or a big 32, with a cooler). So you have high temps. The OP is running stock sized tires. That's not even an apples to artichoke comparison. He's running very warm, but I don't see him entering catastrophe.
