Hey Guys, long time chevy fan here interested in getting a tb and lifting it. I was thinking about getting a 06 and up 5.3 with a G80...are some years better than others? How does lifting these things affect their on road handling? This would also be my daily driver so I was wondering if you guys have problems with inspections due to bumper height regulations? You guys have an awesome site here and even better trucks. Thanks

To me, you want a later model, but one that doesn't have the stabilitrac crap... as long as you get a G80 and 4wd, that's all the stabili-whatever you need.
As for handling after lifted... they ride like a dream as long as you upgrade your shocks as you do the lift.

What's wrong with stabilitrac? I fail to see the downside of it.

If you don't have a G-80, it can make up for some of the shortcomings, however, it's an extra electrical component that can go wrong.
Stabilitrac is not really designed specifically for off road either. It's more of a on-road stability aid for low traction scenarios, such as rain or snow.

Thanks for info guys. I'm from central jersey so I am not to far from Island Beach State Park and Wharton State Forest. How hard is it to find a 4WD truck with a G80...does anyone know what percentage of trucks have them?

The G80/4x4 is pretty common. For the 4x4, just make sure it has the 4x4 switch in the dash above the rear wiper control switch and not cap with a TB logo or something. As for the G80, open the glovebox and look for the code "G80" on the sticker. While you're there, make note of the gears...
GU6 - 3.42 ratio
GT4 - 3.73 ratio
GT5 - 4.10 ratio

We don't get quite large enough to require stability papers. Now find yourself a truck and get lifted so we can break you in!

I say get the stabilitrac. my 06 has it and for offroad, just hold the button and deactivate it, but when the snow is flying and traffic is around, it is nice. Also a little piece of comfort that the fiance has it when she drives it. She is a good woman, but not the greatest driver in inclement weather.
they've always worked for me.
