Body lift block question

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

by MrSmithsTB » Sat Jul 23, 2011 3:17 am

In my haste, I ordered 2"x2" body lift blocks from Zone instead of 2"x3". They are made of the same material, will provide the same amount of lift, and carry the same crush-proof rating. Now if I want to send them back for exchange, I am going to have to cover return shipping + shipping for the new blocks + up to a 20% restocking fee. Understandable punishment for not reviewing before clicking submit. Before I call them on Monday for an RMA, I would like to know if anyone thinks it is even necessary to do so. So, should I use them or send them back? My instinct is 50/50 on this one, as I cannot really get a straight answer from a rep and I am not sure if the decrease in weight distribution will be an issue. Thanks, guys.

Looking at their cross-section, I think the 2" ones are plenty strong in pure compression, but they might deflect/tilt more in a crash/bumpy trail and stress the bolts or the block perches because the moment arm from the centerline to the edge of the spacer is so much less. I'd guess it would be the same as downgrading from grade 8 to grade 5 bolts. Or whatever the metric equivalent is - 10.9 or something. If you're not cheaping out on bolts, I personally wouldn't cheap out on the spacers.

If I read it right on their site they really aren't that expensive.
If they are going to penalize you that much, I might would keep them and try to sell them to someone with a jeep wrangler or something.

I would think they would waive the restocking fee if you were ordering a new product from them.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, they are fairly inexpensive. I am going to see what they can do for me credit-wise if I am ordering replacement blocks. Depending on how forgiving they are, I will either send them back or just buy another set and sell these outright on ebay or something. I was also thinking I would just buy 6 of the 3" wide blocks and alternate them under the vehicle with wide ones on the front, back, and center and the 2" wide ones everywhere else.

I'll just put them on my van so I can fit some 28" atv tires.

Update. I got them to waive all of the restock fees with an exchange. So it looks like I am going to be doing the BL after all. Should be good to go within the next couple of weeks. Next up, learn to weld and make some armor.
