Hi y'all!

Name's Ray. Been a member on GMTNation since I bought my 2006 Chevy Trailblazer LS w/4x4 and the G80 Auto-locker back in April this year.

She's got 155ish thousand miles, and right now is our family's ONLY vehicle and daily driver, so I have to be super careful. :/

I have always liked the idea of off-roading, but frankly, before today, never went 'for reals'.. I bet my trip today wouldn't even count as 'for real offroading' by many of your standards, but it was a BLAST and I think I pushed my 99% stocker truck to its - and mine as a novice wheeler's - limit.

I have a few mods on my truck, mostly appearance and a couple functional (that look good too) mods:
Exhaust resonator delete;
Roof rack delete;
Pinstripe delete;
Badging and rear bowtie delete;
Blacked out stock wheels and grille crossmember;
LED side markers, flashers (A/O/W switchbacks), and license plate lights;
LED interior dome, cargo, and 'reading' lights;
Philips Xenon HID Low-beams;
Quad-hi beams / DRL kill.

Unfortunately, aside from the resonator delete, no 'real' offroading mods like a lift kit, body lift, wheels/tires, spare remount, light bars galore, auxiliary equipment (hi-lift jack, spare parts cabinet, offroading essentials) etc.

All those will come as I have the $$ and time, and only after some general insurance/maintenance type things happen (shift/servo kit, flex trans cooler lines, auxiliary trans cooler, performance rotors and ceramic pads, and possibly a valve job and/or valve cover gasket).

I will post another topic under the 'Trail rides' section complete with pics and write-up about my trip today. Like I said, it was real fun and I learned A LOT. :)

Anyway, I hope to be an asset here as well as learn a lot about this new, fantasmagorical world of driving offroad.

Until I get my other topic about my trip up, here is a couple pics of my 'rig' (if one could even call it that at this point..) about as twisted up as she'll get with one wheel off the ground. Enjoy!

Passenger rear wheel about a half inch off the ground. :)

Truck in same place, you can see driver's side rear wheel is as low as compressed as she'll go - all the way on the bump stop. :)

Well, based off your first picture, I can tell you're not in FL... Terrain kind of looks like the Smokies. Tag resembles that of West Virginia.

Don't let the mod bug bite too hard! Heh, who am I kidding?! I hope you get devoured by them!!!

Thanks for the warm welcomes so far. I see I already know at least 2 of you.

West Virginia, indeed. We were out at Sleepy Creek Lake, which is near Berkeley Springs, WV. Cool little Wildlife reserve/camping area, but I did my best to find as many trails as I could that I wouldn't get stuck in/damaged. Like I said, I will post about my inaugural offroading trip this evening when I get home from work, all the pics are on my laptop.

A bit more about me: I grew up in Oklahoma City and moved to the DC area in late 2007. Moved out to WV to save money on rent, but I still work in downtown DC as a sous chef at a fairly nice hotel in Georgetown. (Smokey knows whats up - happy belated over here too, btw)

Married and have 3 small kids all under 6.

Anyway, thanks again, guys!

Oh, and the mod bug has already hit me HARD. Just gotta come up with the extra scratch for all the goodies! :)

I think the standard lift with some radiator and oil pan skids would probably do you just fine and still keep it practical for everyday duty. Still not a "cheap" endeavor, but relatively speaking, it's just scratching the surface and isn't that expensive. You'll find lots of good info here as you lurk. Nice to see you're looking at cooling and the like, it's an after thought for most.

Glad to have you on board, sounds like an interesting trip lol
