Hello everyone, my name is Parris and I have a 2003 envoy SLT. I've had her for almost ten years now and finally want to play with her. I have never lifted a vehicle before and after browsing the site realize that there is a lot more thought that goes into it. I just moved to AZ less than a year ago and I would like to run some trails. Nothing crazy in the beginning. I don't even know where to begin. I have seen a green envoy lifted with a safari rack and tail light covers and it had a INFADEL sticker on the back. I really liked the look of it. I don't know if you guys know who that belongs to. Anyways If anyone can help guide me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

AZ is a big state and a vague description makes it even worse. You may want to put your location in your profile so if the owner is a lurker or member they might be able to speak up.

Begin with a lift, tires and armor. There is much reading to be done in the build threads to get a better idea.

Welcome!

Welcome! I changed my mind a few times while planning my build. The best advice I found was this... "Figure out where you want to end up, and do it. Baby steps are very expensive."

Guys,

I'm having trouble determining what I need to do the lift. I'm seeing a lot about upgrading transfer cases and going a with bigger rear end. If in the beginning all I want is to get some bigger tires and some clearance from a lift do I need to think about these things? Do I need to think about replacing all the suspension parts for me not to have issues later?

I'm in Tucson and I plan on going up the mountain near me and the trails I've been told about are pretty flat, mainly bushes and medium sized rocks.

Short-Term Goals would be to get it up and beef up the suspension a bit.
Long-Term Goals is to be able to drive as my DD but hit some nice messy trails as well.

I have an image in my head and I'm determined to make it happen. I should state that I have a little knowledge about vehicles and I love to learn by doing things myself. I want to be able to say I built this baby with my own hands.

(Not sure if I posted in the correct thread!)

We need some more details to help you. First look in your glove box to find you gear ratio, and let us know what you have.

GU6 = 3.42, GT4 = 3.73, GT5 = 4.10

If you also see G80, then you have the GM standard "locker".

What size tire do you want to go up too? You should probably spend some time in the build threads. Some folks have been rolling around on their stock rear-ends for years without blowing them up. It just depends on your goals and level of aggressiveness off road. You have to decide what your mission with you vehicle is, in order to determine what parts are necessary.

If you've got 3.73's and you just want to roll around on 32's on gravel roads, a 3inch Lift Miester suspension lift plus 1.5inch spacers will do you just fine, combined with some armor for your oil pan and radiator.

3.73s are fine for 33s, as for actually offroading.. choose wisely

I see;
GT4 for the 3.73
KG4 for the 150 Amp Alt

I don't see;
G80.
