Glad you joined. What sort of plans do you have for the truck?

Well, I plan a phased approach roughly outlined as follows:

Phase I:
  • 2.5" suspension Lift in the form of spacers / z71 springs
  • Stock Wheels w/ wheel spacers and probably some 265/70/17s (more than likely BFG A/T)
  • Resonator delete
  • HAM Radio
  • CB Radio (Cobra 75WXST) Only putting this b/c a lot of places require it, I don't use CB if I can avoid it, I much prefer 2m
  • PCM Reprogram

Phase II:
  • Roof rack of some sort with integrated hi-lift jack mount, spare tire mount, and some lights (I'll probably fabricate this myself)
  • Front Bumper Swap (I'll probably buy one of thse because I don't have access to the equipment to fabricate one of these)
  • Winch for front bumper

Phase III:
  • New Wheels / Larger Tires (probably in the neighborhood of 33x12.50s)
  • Enough body lift to accomodate my tires
  • Rock Rails (I'll fabricate these myself)
  • Maybe on-board air (Jury is still out on whether I want this on my rig or not).

This is not really a complete list obviously, but it's a good, long-term goal. My first mod will hopefully be removing the resonator this weekend and putting a new straight pipe in its place. This will be followed very shortly by install of some new 2m/70cm radio equipment. I'm looking for a good deal on something, I just haven't decided what I want there yet.

Having a plan is good. :)

Be ready to reorganize your plan as needed, mine sure hasn't gone in the order I thought it would.
I own too many vehicles now. Let's leave it at that.

I have no doubt I'll be re-organizing drastically as I go. If for no other reason, I forgot to mention that I'm married!

Luckily you are in the right direction. Your first step is to read read read. Start at the Lifts/Suspension forum section and read the announcements. Then read through some build threads... so on and so forth. http://jd.offroadtb.com is a decent place to peruse too, but I'm a bit biased. Welcome!

I was looking at your build page, and I noticed you originally went with the WAAG brush / rear bumper guards. I have thought about these as well; however, their catalog shows they fit all models except the LT. I notice you have an LT as well. Were there any issues there? Looks like it should bolt right up.

Edit: Oh and I might add that your write-ups on your build are excellent. That will be very helpful as I begin to transform this truck!

James has an older LT. There is a difference between 06'+ LT's and the older ones. Front end is what changed (bumper, grill, lights).

I put a WAAG on my 07' LT but there is a little work that must be done tho use the upper supports for the guard. Check out my thread...

http://forums.offroadtb.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=582

And it also doesn't fit as snug as it does on the other style bumper cover. But other than that it bolts right up.

Okay, so the upper support through the grill is the only real issue? If the bottom mounts to the tow hook mounting location is the same, I could easily adapt the upper with somethign simlar to what you did.

Yep. Bolts up the same as far as the lower mount, just the grill dips down so the upper bracket can't bolt up as easy as on the other years, since the bracket would go between the grill and bumper cover. Easy enough to fix tho.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I'm planning ultimately to go with a replacement front bumper, but I think I might just order one of these until I end up deciding whether I go with a suspension only lift or a suspension lift coupled with a body lift. I don't want to order a bumper for no body lift and then be left with a large gap to worry about if I end up using a body lift later, and I can always sell the brush guard when I'm ready to upgrade.
