with the wheel adapters you shouldn't have any trouble with the ball joint. We're you testing the wheel without the spacer/ adapter?

if you're concerned about having a lip there I'd just slice the lip, cut the fender back for clearance then tack the lip back to the fender. As long as you go slow you shouldn't have any issues with it warping.

the problem with that lift goes beyond just the ball joint, you also end up binding the CV at the tripot. We had a new guy come on here talking about destroying his diff and t case and CVs by using that lift. You've been warned.

Wow. I'm glad I read and ask questions before I order crap off ebay! lol I'll work on other methods for the lift! If I can find the funds, I'll just go Radflo. Otherwise a local lifted TB guy suggested he'd buy a new 3" kit from mark and let me borrow his 2.5" until I buy my Radflo. Still looking at options!

I was test fitting with MarkMC's wheel adapter installed. I'm aware everyone says it fits, but seriously, it was going to hit. lol We worked with the left front. We installed a +25 wheel and put a straight edge on it. I was straight on with the bolt for the upper ball joint. Considering that allows for no bulge of the tire at all, this wheel is not going to work for me. Sorry I didn't get pics of the ball joint clearence.

Youre fender idea is the same as what I'm hearing locally. His looks good! I love what he did with his floor pan, that's on my To Do list. For the fender I think it would be more work and stress than just relocating it.

Update: I was test fitting with 8 1/2" wide wheel. It seems most guys with the +25 are running 8" wide wheels. Is it possible that makes part of a difference?

Yes that will make a difference in the fit.

Erik,

ErikSS wrote:So you just bent a new lip? Do you work with metal for a living, because that sounds pretty hard to get a smooth edge at the bend! The people I've asked locally suggest to cut the fender, slide the cut piece behind the fender and re attach it. Do you have more fender pics?

This was the first time I folder a 90 degree lip. As others suggested I too have folded and rolled the fender lip flat to the inside. I didn't want to do that because I was retaining the fender liner. Just worked the way from bottom to top.

I definitely don't do this for a living. You can see the gap I have midway up the fender plus I have a split 3" above that. If I was going to re-paint, I would weld that cut and fill in the gap with steel. Rubber or foam will solve this.

The bottom rear of the fender is cut about 2 inches to provide the tire clearance. The fender now has clearance for the 315's but I also cut the fender well. More pics there of the fender.

Our latest creation to be posted shortly is an aluminium rear bumper and tire carrier.

Yes, and that is why I ONLY like discussing these matters in terms of backspacing... offset seems to only complicates things unless you have a calculator and sketch pad in hand.

:Iagree: And of course had we known he was talking about 8.5" wheels vs 8" it would have been caught sooner.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm running a bit low on funds for the Radflo. I'd consider Marks kit, but I'm told that the SS is likely to lean pretty bad. Maybe his old kit? I'm going to run 315/70/17's so I need a good amount of lift. I may end up just waiting to get the Radflo, but I'm open to suggestions? Anyone have an old front kit laying around? Or maybe wanted an excuse to upgrade?

Who told you the SS would lean bad? I was under a lifted SS and the lift was not the lean or alignment issue. The previous alignment to the lift had pinned everything to one side. I think if everything had been loosened up and centered up, then it was taken in for alignment it would have not had issues.

It would be great if alignment would make it sit level. I'd still really like to go Radflo as soon as I can afford it. I would like to find a cheap quick way to take care of the front for a couple months. Did they get DevilishT (Travis) lifted and sitting level?

Hey, Kyle sent me this question.

I've got a set of already-lifted stock struts with stock V8 springs in them, that you can borrow for a while.

They (It was Travis and Kyle (Hardtrailz) that did it) never got his leveled out, but it's not level when it's low, either. It's just not nearly as noticeable, because the angles work out differently. Travis never had time to mess with the alignment of it, so he just took the lift off. It's not that it couldn't be done, but that they never really seriously messed with it.

Don't want to hijack this thread but these are new NAPA boots that leaked out the seam! I will have to replace them having followed the boot discussion.

Hey Ron. I checked your your buld thread. I like your rear bumper! It reminds me a lot of Mikes rear bumpers. Did you get plate aluminum and just start cutting and welding?

What kind of a thread would it be? Sorry, this was all I knew how to do.

Due to a bunch of kind offers from Offroad Trailblazer friends, my lift could happen sooner than expected! Infact, if everything falls into place, I may be lifted for the June 1st GMTnation event near Chicago!
