Ah good man. So I've deemed that I dont have G80 and I have a GU6 rear end. Obviously with a gear ratio like that I'm limited in some way off-road?

Limitations are only what you give your self. I have had my EXT out in so fun stuff and really had no problem. I pulled full size 4 door 1500's on 34's out front being framed and everything.

I have the GU6. It just means you're best with a 32 or so MAX, unless you don't mind downshifting to D3 for most inclines on the highway.

Why do you always tell people that if you have over 32" tires they are GONNA be downshifting to D3 on the highway? I never had to and I had 3.42's and 33's and that was in Seattle which is built on cliffs and steep steep hills.

I've just never had to downshift ever but maybe it was because I didn't have much weight like bumpers.

But just asking JD :)

I downshift quite a bit actually. By watching my trans temp on the scanguage its best for me to downshift when I'm doing long trips with hilly highway because I notice it shifts in and out of overdrive, otherwise I'm fine.

And I'm on 33's with 3.42's.

I don't know if anyone has tried them from this site, but you might give ARB a shot.

They make an air locker system, replaces your entire differential, and is switch activated. On when you want it, off when you dont.

Exactly. If you don't manually downshift to D3, your trans will unlock the torque converter and your trans temps will get a bit high.

It's really just my opinion that 33s are a bit too large for 3.42s based on my own experiences with my 32s. With the 32s I fair well on the highway, but I don't think I'd want any less thrust to the ground.

Even before installing Mike's bumper and skid set up and with 3.73's I noticed alot more torque converter unlocking than before the lift and larger tires.

It was often better to just shift down to D3 to keep the rpms constant than have the trans constanly shifting/unlocking/locking.

So i'm sure after a BL and even larger tires, it just makes sense to regear to help keep from having this become a constant issue rather than just a when I hit a hill issue. Not to mention it will help fuel economy to be back up in the torque curve.

So basically if I wanted 3.73's I would have to swap out the rear end with a GT4?
