Hi I'm new here my name is mike and I've owned my TB for a little over a year now and now it's time for new tires and I'm planning on making my TB an on and off road rig I've been researching lots of sizes and styles, lifts and wheel spacers funds are a little low to do all at once so I've been looking into the max size for stock wheel stock suspension setup and I know I can't go no bigger than 30.5 that way but I've seen some confusing things like 31/10.5r17 on stock and 31's on an ss with stock 20's and 22's on a lowered TB and I know the ball joint is an issue how are they doing this Stock, and would it look weird with a lift on 255/65r17 cuz that's what I'm planning on going with for now since I don't have the cash for lift and wheel spacers just yet, sorry I had a lot of questions thanks for taking the time to read any help would be great looking forward to becoming a long time member

Welcome!

Almost all of your questions have already been discussed, and it's only going to take you 10 hours of reading to come up to speed. Enjoy!

Especially check out the build threads.

The issue for the larger wheel sizes (20-22") is that they get lower aspect ratios to keep the FINAL OUTER diameter of the rubber so it doesn't hit the upper ball joint. And some aftermarket wheels that fit without spacers have less backspacing so that moves the tires outward for free. And many tires are built "near" their nominal sizes, but not exact, so only the tire manufacturer will be able to say if a tire is 30.2 or 30.7" for a nominal size that might make you think they are going to be 30.5".

Also, be cautious about any offroad planning on a limited budget, because even more than lift, spacers, and tires (and the underbody armor you didn't mention), you need a savings safety cushion in case you break something. You need (potentially) emergency supplies, communication gear, recovery and extraction gear, maintenance supplies, spare parts, etc. etc. This is a site devoted to USING the vehicles offroad, not for how to lift 'em to look "good" at the mall. Stock, you can do a LOT of things that would astonish you, so don't throw money at a perceived limitation until you know it's the best use of your money. Saving for longer until you can do 2-4 levels of improvement at once may be a better plan to avoid wasting money on a mod like tires that have to be discarded later.
