$500 setup is if you can't do it yourself. And even then, that seems extremely steep.
I bought my front 4.10 for $250 off a forum member and then sold it to Chris for $220, they're pretty reasonable.
Getting a 4.10 axle in 8.6 is expensive according to car-part and if you want an SS rear end that's $1000 in itself most of the time. I have seen some really good prices though in a few places, patience probably helps if replacing the rear axle at a reasonable cost. Comes down to how good of a price/deal hunter you are.
It is cheaper to buy the 8.6 in 3.42 and swap in 4.56 and rear-gear the front IMO than to buy a 4.10 rear axle for $800 and then another $300 for the front diff (still $1100) and later decide you want 4.56.
If you can set it up yourself, then I honestly think 4.56 could be done for cheaper than getting a 4.10 axle. Gearing isn't that difficult if you can handle setting the backlash. But you can F*** it up bad if you don't have a clue.
Unless you just want to upgrade your standard axle with 4.10's. That's probably cheapest. I dunno. I think I'm rambling now. Been low on sleep.
