Seeking More Engine Power

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

by AWCougar » Mon Apr 29, 2013 3:55 pm

i have been searching all over and cant seem to get anymore power from the engine and such. i use my rig for an everyday driver and light off road but i want more power (to impress my road rage) is that anything i can install to the 4.2 straight 6? blower? supercharger?... anything??? and if there is what would be the best?

i know. i cant find anything useful on the other site
its not just because of my on road use... my buddy is doing a 350 swap on his jeep and i want to be able to keep up with him. we go up to onalaska a lot and play in the snow. what stopped me last time was a steep incline not traction. i just couldnt get the umph to hit the incline.
what were you thinkin i was gonna slam it and throw 22's on?

Only ever heard it asked with that intent.

From what I have read, why not swap it also? You seem to have a plan for the other lacking parts of the ride.

superchargers make our trucks explode... like, boom and stuff.
turbos cause our exhaust to freeze over, like ice and stuff. so that wont work either.
Really, your only option is to incorporate the propulsion system of an airboat. Let me know how that comes along, curious to see how it turns out.

Easy way to add over 100hp go to a SS. WTF never once has the 275hp been too little I lose traction with my 4900lbs trailer on the back before I run out of power going up hills

Take a look at these build threads. There's is a lot of money, time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears invested into these builds that are known as the rigs that would handle the most extreme trails known to our platform. All you are gonna find is the normal resonator delete and PCM tune and maybe a set of headers

Yea, i can't believe you got stopped by lack of torque in 4LO first gear; especially in the snow.

And if you weren't in 4LO first gear, you need to spend some time learning about proper technique before you start throwing money at a problem that isn't there. These trucks already have plenty of power to break drive line parts. Not sure if more power is the best approach.

And instead of making the engine more powerful to overcome your lack of torque, why don't you re-gear and REDUCE the amount of power the engine needs to produce and reduce the loads on the drive train.

Gears come a lot cheaper than a supercharger.

This.

Stock TBs have more than enough power to break most of their drivetrain already. I suspect your friend's 350 swap Jeep seems more powerful because:

It has deeper gears than your TB.
It is way lighter.

Most 350 swaps I've seen are carbed or early style TBI. You probably put down more power than he does already.

I expect you will stop pumping oil before you run out of torque in 4lo.

Ask v7guy about that.. LOL

You're pretty correct Chris.

Yeah, it's enlightening when you're going up a hill so steep all the oil pools to the back of the oil pan and your oil pressure drops to zero while your dashboard lights up with warning lights. I was still moving forward/up when it happened and wasn't even in 4lo.

We don't have a power issue as far as offroading goes.

Might need to be a new thread...but how much of a concern is this? I had this happen once on my last trip when I was stuck on the side of a hill. Should I have shut off the engine?
