Squeaky Steering Wheel

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

Old wives tail. I was in my 15 year old gas tank to do a fuel pump a couple of winters ago. Clean as a fricken whistle in the tank. Also, the pump's filter is basically jambed against the floor of the tank. The pump always draws from the very bottom, no matter how much fuel is in the tank.

But there is another argument, that the fuel cools the pump. Running the pump with the tank empty can overheat the pump and shorten its life if done frequently.

Which, IME, might be true. The fuel pump died on me after 2 years of being a poor highschool kid and only putting 20 bucks in the tank at a time. I literally had a 1/4 tank of gas for 2 years.

I dunno then, my firebirds tank had all sorts of gunk in it when I pulled it at about 10 years old. It was probably left over from when we all got pissed at it and started pouring sand in the tank... yeah, now that I think about it, that's definitely it. :raspberry:

But seriously, I've personally seen build up in tanks. It happens.

Yeah... i usually just fill up every Friday. According to my aCar app for android, I'm getting 15.359 mpg. Ive usually got 230 miles on the trip meter. Soo... That's approx 6.5 gallons left in the tank... I love my aCar app, and it was FREE.

steering wheel has been squeaking almost since I bought it in 2008 ... sounds like rubber on rubber ... too much trouble to figure out what it is ... I did look at the steering column linkage the other day where 2 rubber boots come together in the engine compartment ... there was a metal ring that looked like it was supposed to hold the boots together ... just some sprung steel ... it had fallen down inside of the lower boot ... dont know wtf that thing was for and could figure out where to put it back at ... guess it wasnt necessary so I eliminated it ... thought the squeaking might be from those 2 rubber boots coming together but I dont think the noise could make it through the firewall ... I need to pull the steering wheel inside and see if I can figure it out ... noise is exactly the same as yours

my truck made that exact noise, too!

Don't know if it was related or coincidence, but when I changed my PS pump (for other reasons)... the sound went away.

That clip fits inside the rubber piece and helps it clip into a groove on the hard plastic piece to secure the boot.

My Bravada has that same sound. The radio is always on though, so I don't even hear it until I go through the fast food drive thru or the bank teller.
