Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

4.8 Vortec

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

by Dammann35 » Mon Oct 14, 2013 9:46 pm

Just sitting at home and started thinking has anyone ever looked into swapping in the 4.8 vortec or could it be done.

This is the trip threads section...

You could just buy a trailblazer with a 5.3 vortec already in it.

Also, the 4.8 V8 puts out almost the same numbers as a 4.2 I6. So I'm not sure what the real benefit would be?

It could be done, it will fit. Its the same motor as the 5.3 on the exterior. Is there a point? Probably not. More trouble than it's worth.

I know it sounds pointless but I would like to do it. it sounds good straight piped unlike the 4.2 sounds like garbage.

Thread moved. Quote a random topic there Cody.

With enough work and money, pretty much anything can be done.

Thanks James, I wasn't paying attention when I posted it.
So I cut my muffler out once and stuck a dynomax muffler in there and I hated the sound of it. besides doing a engine swap what do you guys think sounds the best.

Like James said, anything can be done with enough money.

If you're going that far, why not swap in an 06+ 5.3V8, with 300/300 instead of the 4.8V8 with 275/275?

I do agree pretty much any V8 sounds "better" than an inline 6.

OR a 6.0 vortec and 4L80E out of a 2000ish 2500 pickup would be even more impressive.

Why in the world would you want a 4.8L? Yeah, it's doable, but why would you go through all the trouble to basically gain no power, when it's exactly the same amount of work to swap in a 5.3L or a 6.0L?

Because (he said) it "sounds better."

I think buying a 5.3 TB would be cheaper and alot less headaches but to each their own!

:Iagree:

and you would get an upgraded rear end in the process.

If worried about sound, why not just drop the 6.0 v8 in it? They sound great straight-pipped.

I dunno about you, but I've been looking for months and haven't found one around me. I'd switch it out in a heartbeat. SS's still go for 15-18k around here :(

Can't say I haven't dreamed about this, though. Or putting in a 4bt. Or a t56, especially now that my 4l60 is gone..

I don't see any right now but use searchtempest to search CL for like a 200 mile area (or however far you are willing to drive).

when the urge strikes me I look for a V8 4X4 XUV within 200 miles. I never find many if any and most have too many miles. Then I get to thinking that as well as I have maintained my TB, I don't think I want to get rid of it for something I don't really know the history on.

Only thing a 4.8 is good for, is putting the crank in a 6.0 block.

Your best bet would be a 5.3 or bigger

Plus, the XUV might have actually been taken off road! You're better off keeping your mall crawler. :raspberry: :raspberry:

6.0L LS2 was an ok block, but why not do a duramax swap instead. With a turbo. Maybe two. Whose ready to cut the fire wall up!
Once lifted 03 Trailblazer on 35's, gave it up to travel the USA with my family.
