Trailnlazer LS brakes converted to SS brakes

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

by Eg4life1202 » Mon Oct 21, 2013 3:34 pm

Hello Everyone!!! Owned the TB since new and have researched the forums often. Great stuff! Only last week did i finish my suspension lift and tires.

Has anyone attempedthis swap over? I have a 2007 LS 4x4 and would like more stopping power. I am running a 3inch lift, 2 inch wheel hub spacers with 33inch tires. I also tow a 20 foot ski boat in the summer months.

I have read that others with the LT model TB need only to buy the caliper bracket and rotors. Is this the same for the LS? Im am also running the stock 17inch rims.
Thanks

I'm almost certain that the LS brakes and the LT brakes are the same. The only ones that I'm aware are different are the EXT and the SS. I know Regulator just did his, they look fricking awesome. Well, they did on Friday!!! haha (he went off roading all weekend) I know MikeKey also did a real nice explanation on how to do this.

Not just the EXT and SS, but all of the V8 models, including the short wheelbase V8 models from '06-08, have the larger rotors.

Mike, I think you started with the right Rig. The only real difference between yours stock and mine is the rear axle. Do you have the 8.6" rear axle like the EXT does?

If I can, I'm going to start trying to talk my parents into a rig VERY much like yours.

Yep, larger brakes, 8.6" rear axle, V8 music, tight converter match for less trans heat than the I6, low end torque, etc.

Indeed. And the V8s are harder to find than an AWD SS.

Funny you metion that. I was just looking at local ads to satisfy my curiosity. In 50 ads on autotrader for my zip code, there was 3 TB/Envoy with V8s, and about 15 TBSS AWD. Actually some TBSS AWD were cheaper than some fully loaded envoy's.

And than I found this gem, for the price of 7K only a few miles from my house. It's nice to dream. I'd need to go see it for gears/G80. Fully loaded with factory navigation and premium sound.

EDITI can't get the link to work

It's a white 2006 LT with the V8. 4x4. etc
For what dealers try to get for TB's around here, seeing that at that price gives me hope.

Just to clarify the SS calipers are IRON, the EXT brakes are aluminum. Or is it the other way around? I forget. I believe it's IRON on the SS for increased heat abuse assumed with that vehicle.

That's the only real difference between the EXT and SS front calipers. All rear calipers are the same size.

LS, LT, LTZ are just trim packages btw.

EXT (extended) and SS (Super Sport) are the only additional model line ups over the stock SWB (Short Wheel Base) Trailblazer.
Once lifted 03 Trailblazer on 35's, gave it up to travel the USA with my family.

:Iagree: but you don't need the calipers, I used SS brackets and rotors and kept my calipers.

I was surprised to find my SS calipers were iron. Thanks Mikekey for gathering all that information into one place.
