Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Is this a good trans cooler?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

So as I was looking in the mess of my Dad's tool shop I found a couple trans coolers I might be able to use. Its a Hayden HeatGard part #403.

Here is the one I want to use on my truck, it measures (not including the tubes that stick out) 9 3/8"X7.5"X7/8". (With tubes in play) 12 3/4"X7.5"X.7/8".

I was wondering if this was a trans cooler which was a good thing to use?? And also I've heard that since I just moved to Seattle since it gets cold here in the winter will I need to "cover it up" to keep from my trans from never heating up?

But let me know what you guys think of me using it. Any and all comments are welcome.

That will work, but it's the older tube and fin design, not the more modern and efficient stacked plate. Watch for corrosion, I think is the biggest risk. Maybe more exposed for damage? I dunno. Will only save you $50, but $50 is $50.

I was thinking it would work but just wanted to know for sure since its an older trans cooleri think he was gonna put it in the GOAT when he had it, but since I just found it I'm figuring why not use it.

Now when you put in your trans cooler (I think you have one) did you do a filter and fluid change? I think instead of just adding more fluid I'm just gonna change it.

I have a medium size Hayden, and I paid my mechanic soon after installing it to do a total service, flush and synthetic change.

That cooler will work fine. Though, as Roadie said, it is not the more efficient and compact plate design, it is proven technology and will work in concert with your factory radiator-enclosed cooler.

I don't think it gets cold enough in Seattle to worry about it in the winter, but I could be wrong. In that case, just cover it from air flow and you are good, because you are going to run this in tandem with your stock cooler which both heats and cools the oil for consistent operating temps (you ARE planning on hooking in line with your stock cooler, right?).
