Body lift tips

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

to me the bumpers were the hard part, the blocks/steering extension/radiator were the easy part.

If you do part of it at a different location you'll have to basically do everything except the bumpers (blocks, radiator, steering extension etc).

I think I would use my oil change ramps under the rear tires. Back on them until level and chop the front wheels. I thought about having them on the front but it might make it hard to install the steering extension.

He said removing the tires...it has to sit on something then and jack stands are probably the best bet.

yeah, I caught that just unsure why he removed the tires.
I guess it does give more room to work.

I did other stuff at the same time that needed the tires off.

I left the tires on, used a jack and 2 2x6s nailed together. I wouldn't worry about the slight incline personally. Just drive around a bit to let it settle. I didn't drive around the first time and had quite a few loosen up and one fall out.

I used lock tight, torqued them and let it sit for 24 hours. No problems.

So when you jack up the one side to install the blocks, doesn't this cause the bolts to become misaligned with the holes? I guess I might be over thinking this, but wouldn't the bolt be like .../.... That since one side is higher than the other?

No. The body isn't really twisted that much to throw the holes off, seeing the other side is still together for the most part.

Thats why you just start them and do not tighten until all blocks are in and preferably after a little shake down ride to align everything.

yup, they are slightly off, but there's plenty of slack, leave everything loose with just a half dozen turns done before you drive around the block. after you drive around come back and torque em. Good to go.

Then re-torque after 100 miles or so.

Sounds easy enough, I just got a level out and rear of the truck only needs to come up about 2" to get the truck level with the front in my driveway. Now just need a free weekend to get this done. Hopefully sometime soon before winter.

2"...I would not even bother leveling it. A couple got done in my driveway with more slope than that. I would consider that flat.

Has anyone relocated the brush guard after the body lift?

People putting on body lifts typically have something more functional than a brush guard up front. :flex dirty: (Obligatory snark...) :woot:

So I think I am missing something here.... I have 12 blocks in my kit, im only seeing 10 body bolts/block locations. 3 under the doors on both aides, 2 in the rear and 2 more up near the the radiator. Where are the other 2?

Nvm......brain fart this morning while spraying everything with PB blaster.

Ah they're above the rear axle.
