Thoughts about these please?

First off, I am building on a budget, and just can't afford to drop 1300 or 1400 bucks on tires. Through my research online, and a recommendation from a friend, I found this site.https://www.treadwright.com/

From all the reading I have done there they sound like a pretty good tire. There are alot of testimonials that sound great, and they have linked to a few off road magazines that have rather positive articles. I realize they are only going to show the positive on their site, thats why I figured I would see what the thoughts were here.

They don't looook bad, but for a few bucks more you can get new as opposed to retreads. What exact kind are you trying to get? AT or MT? Size?

I've heard good things, but waiting for someone to take the plunge. I especially like their idea of the crushed glass in the tread.

Why?

I've seen crushed glass in concrete. Why would you want it in your tire tread? Somethings wrong here.

I have been looking for a set of 285-70R17's MT's. It looks like I can get a set of 5 here for under $600, where I am looking at close to $1500 anywhere else for a set of 5 new tires.

My biggest concern is trying to prepare for Tecore. I currently have a set of AT's on my truck now, but feel that I would like to have a bit more tread for the trip. I don't mind being the truck used for extraction lessons, I just don't want to have to do it all the time.

ATs should probably be fine for 99% of the terrain we'll hit. I'd imagine the only place you'd have trouble would be some deep mud, but even then you'll probably be ok.

I wouldn't mess with retreads especially if you're going to be airing down and then driving high speeds on the interstate. There's too much of a possibility of the tread separating from stress. Retreads work on highway-only vehicles because large tread deflection is rare.

:Iagree: If you have an AT that will handle 90% of your driving on and off road without a problem, it is worth the wait to get something that you will undoubtedly be satisfied with. You don't necessarily have to spend 1300 to get a good set of tires, but spending a couple hundred more is going to be worth it in the long run.

At 117 a piece i would run them and then resell them for 100 a piece when you decide what you really want. they have a 2 yr 24,000 mile warranty. I think that you will be more than satisfied and find it money well spent. I doubt you even want to get different ones when you have money saved up. I would consider them, but i want swampers next.

I'm not seeing the MTs in that size for $117? From the looks of it, you'd be looking at about $800 shipped to your door for 5 of them. I'm seeing 265/70/17 with Kedge Grip for $188, $108 without.

Kedge grip is 10 bux extra per tire. I told him about these and researched them for awhile. I been watching for negative reviews since i found this place a couple years ago. There are few, but no more that my tires or bfg or goodyer.

My bad 128 each for 17's and still the 10 bux for kedge which I would not bother with. It is am old school trick that if really worked would be used by the big time manufactuers.

Hmm, pretty interesting. I'm sure they can't be that bad and worth it to try since they are rather cheap. If I had storage space I would like to get those on a spare set of wheels to try out.

Not much reading available, but the Jeep guys seem to like them. Warranty seems to be on par with most major companies. The more I read the less I see a reason not to try them.

That is kinda what I came to...Why not? They seem to perform, they are warrantied except for a few 15 inch and other sizes that are offroad only, they are more than fairly priced and shipping for me was not bad.

Plus with the cost of used and not knowing what those tires have been through, why not?

If you end up having a claim how would you get it resolved?

Info is all on the site. Send in the claim info and pics. I didn't read the entire thing, but it looks like you submit the warranty request and the determine the amount you have to pay to replace the tire.

For the chance of a problem with a retread and having to prove that the tires have been run only to warranty legalese. I would rather save my pennies and buy new tires or go the used route. IMO ;)

As for airing down, I have an onboard compressor, and would be refilling before any major pavement driving. They do talk about payment use while aired down voids the warranty, so I would have to watch that closely.

I am looking at either the MT's at

285-70-17 for 129.89 each. $650 plus shipping for 5
or
265-70-17 for 108.70 each. $550 plus shipping for 5

I am not sure the extra inch of tire is going to be worth another $100, and having 3.42 gears I am not to sure I want to go to a 33.5 inch tire anyway.

I would imagine it is just as difficult to prove the claim validity of a "name brand" tire. I know that if I had a problem with a business, I would report them. So yes, I do think it counts for something. But this thread is not the place for a discussion of that nature.

Go with your gut. It's your truck. If you feel you can trust the tires, the price sure as hell can't be beat. I've seen used brand name tires within the past week sell for that much.
