What is the average mileage?

Since I am buying new tires in 3 weeks (Counting the days :excited: ) I am still undecided between a mud or an A/T tire.

Its still the DD and I can't afford new $1k mud tires every 20k miles. But damn they are sweet. I am down to the BFG AT or the BFG MT KD. But I am open to other options. My biggest thing is the MT doesn't come in E rating and I regularly tow a 19' camp trailer or the Quad trailer and the rear hatch is loaded up full with gear, food, water, and luggage. The weight is up there on the week long trips.

I generally don't do some of the serious rock trails some of you do, and Mud is a rareity where I go. It's mostly overland in the desert or high mountain trails like mining roads, that sort of thing. Some rough spots but nothing that I would need huge lugs for. However deep snow, +3-4' is common from Nov. - March.

So it comes down to how many miles average are you guys seeing from your tires and what are you running now? Or what have you run in the past and liked/disliked about them?

BFG MT KD? Never heard of that... I think you mean BFG T/A KM2?

I have had the KM1s for the past 3 years and have put over 50k on them so far. Because of my experience, I'm considering going with a KM2 this next round.

Yes thats the tire I was talking about. I did a search and found a post where you said you were over 50k miles, but not much else.

I have a 255/75 17 KM that I picked up from a friend for $30. It has a patch but I figured it would make a good spare if I go with them, if not I can sell it. It still has over 1/2 tread.

i have the BFG km2 tires and i have 30,000 miles on them and have half tread left. i tow a 32 foot travel trailer. my tires are E rated 245/70/17

I thought they were the same size as my BFG AT, without spacers?? 245/70-17 ??

My Pro Comps have 25,000 and I expect another 20,000 out of them. I had the original BFG MT 15 years ago and got 60,000 miles out of them. The BFG are great tires.

No Doubt BFG are great tires. I only have 10,000 miles on my Pro-Comps and they still look brand spankin :D

I guess I drive on sharper rocks than you do. I'd be embarrassed if my lugs weren't at least rounded at the edges. At 5K miles the red "Grabber" appliques are tearing off. (I put them lettering side out because I will remount them lettering side in when the life's half over.

My pro comps show some abuse and don't look new but are nothing to worry about. I am going back and forth between pro comps again or bfgs. I do see more tears in the lugs of km2s than I do in the pro comps with all the jeeps I wheel with but more do run the bfg.

Right now I'm at 40k on my Kumho MT's. Replacing soon but still have a bit of tread life left, but going just a bit bigger in size with the KM2's. If they weren't directional I would of gotten a lot more out of them.

I have around 40,000kms on my Goodyear MT/R's amd still about 65% tread left. They are doing great, no chunking....gettin a little noisier but thats about it. But for almost $300 a tire, they had better last at least this long hahahaha

What about your cupping issue and that you were gonna ditch them awhile ago? The op might want to know about that.

Yes, I did have a cupping issue, but i posted in my writeup (possibly on the trailvoy site where my ongoing review is located) that with a lot of rotating, and use of a "road force" tire balancer the cupping issues seem to have gone away.

All I can say for these tires, especially for me as never having an MT set before, you must rotate them consistently to keep wear even. I now run at 36-38psi instead of 45+. The more you rotate the better with these tires it seems.

I really cant say enough about the roadforce machine. It got rid of almost all my vibration issues from the cupped treads. I will def use this system from now on.

Haha, my Coopers have lugs that are half-missing on parts. That Borrego trip tore everything to hell and back, and Big Bear didn't do them any favors. They're definitely not long on life, and I suspect I'll be very happy to be riding on the KM2's when I get them, not to mention the extra height and super-durable sidewalls :excited:

Km2 ride so good because they are not known for super durable sidewalls actually. They are soft and flexy but definitely not as tough as some other sidewalls out there.

Cooper's are your first problem... they are not good at all for desert use, they just plain suck.

Their E-rated sidewalls can't be as bad as the C-rated Coopers.

And actually, the Coopers have gotten good reviews for use in the Australian Outback, they're just not that big out here. I can't say I've ever had any major problems with them, and their traction on sand is pretty good, they just got torn up by the rocks and I'm somewhat disappointed by treadwear, though that may be due to a number of factors.

Where you guys wheel is the same terrain as here in Vegas, and everybody that I talk to (that are wheelers) say they suck ass.

The owner of maximum offroad and security here in Vegas has/had those tires on his wrangler and he hates them. The problem is that they are too soft for rocky terrain and the deserts around where we live.

I am done with Goodyear tires period. Ran several on several cars from racing to towing and have never seen a difference in performance over BFGs on the same car. They cost more and my tire life has been less. The set I have now are Goodyear, 1 year and 12,000 miles they are half worn already. And thats with 5-6000 mi. regular rotations. And it got an extra rotation when I lifted it so its even less than that.

However looking around I will probably be getting BFGs still. I was more curious about the average mileage of Mud Tires in particular, sounds like they get more milage than I thought. Trying to stick with a 32" tire (not measured, advertised) just so I don't loose too much torque for towing. The 255/75 17 KM jumped out at me as perfect, but its only in C load range. :hissyfit:

And yes about half of my offroad is EXACTLY what is down around Vegas.
