Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

which tire would you choose and why?

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

I got treadwrights, so I can get a set of swampers for local wheeling. Swampers just dont work for 1000 mile round trips for wheeling. I have had SX, Thornbirds, and TSL's rip sections of tread out without ever going more than 100 miles on road. But different tires for different missions...

Definately different luck, I've put over 60,000 highway miles on swamper over the last 10 years, (3 different sets) with no issues, but there are better tires out there for the road. The truxus mt is a great dual purpose tire, it was on my wifes mud racer/ daily driver we had 22,000 miles when they were sold with 3/8" tread.

That being said, I don't currently own any swampers.

Treadwrights are just old style MTR pattern. They load up a little more than some tires I've seen but they do pretty well all around. They don't chunk like my Hankooks did. I'll buy another set for the TB when the time comes. Road wear is excellent so far.

I have 37x14 bias ply Iroks on the Yota. They are noisy and bitchy on the road, and I need to throw some beads into them as a I have an annoying wobble at 35ish MPH. Air them down to 8psi or less though and they like to grab onto anything. Apparently they have shitty road life, so it's a good thing the Yota is a weekender.

I haven't really been impressed with anything carrying a Pro-Comp label. Guy I know had a set of their rocker arms come apart on him recently.

My e load ssr's were the only scampers I had that did not literally rip apart. I had two thornbirds die in a 3spot hour round trip. One sidewall failure and the other had a 4x6 inch section of tread come off and kill my inner fender.

But I am hoping to grab some 35 12.5 17 ltb this summer.

I think my next set will be the Treadwright Wardens (265/75/16). For what I do 90% hwy and the rest sand and light mud I think they will be a good tire. I want the guard dogs because I like the look but expect the increased road noise will bug me

To attempt to pick the perfect tire, we need to know what terrain they will be used in.

Pavement, sand, mud, rocks, snow, and the percentage of each. Then we can make suggestions, buts thats all it will be.

Everyone is gonna have their own opinions about what tire they have had luck with and what they didn't. I have been wheeling, like everyone else has for years with many different vehicles and tires. I can honestly say BFG and the Pro-Comp extreme MT's are my choices. I currently run the Pro-Comp Extreme MT's 31.9 Load range E. I love that tire so much I will be getting another set when i go to 33's. They are awesome in the snow, rain, sand, and mud. While I have not altered my truck from IFS to solid axles and leaf springs and have my truck sitting on 44's,lol, I have literally beat the crap out of this truck with these tires and they are still asking for more with plenty of tread left on them. All depends what your mission is ,good luck in your search. :flex dirty:
