high lift jack mounting locations

im curiouse to see how u guys mounted your high lifts. iv been thinking bout doing a hood mount, but the question is how. post some pics and feel free to explain how you did it . the more ideas the better. i need to get mine off the rack, i keep hooking it on branches since its mounted on my roof rack.

I just looked at your build thread. Dude get the tube mounts and run it off of your bar on your bumper.

Never had an issue with mine on the roof rack. Personally don't like the hood or front bumper mount, but would not mind figuring out a way to get it mounted to the rear bumper.

I had mine on the side of the roof rack until I spent 30 seconds analyzing the forces in a 5 mph collision at a stop light. It would turn into a lethal javelin.

Mine bolts through crossbars so the whole rack has to come off. Having seen the bar mounts for bumpers and hood mounts...my bolts are just as solid.

You could make a couple brackets, bolt to the hood by sandwiching the bracket between the hood and the hood bracket. I would think the jack mounted there would be a rather significant visual obstruction while wheeling. But there is only one way to find out

What "if" I was to drill a hole and sleeve and extend my hood hinge bolts to except a bracket or sorts?

Not that I have ever seen. I think the general consensus was it was not the best option.

I tried, those jeep mounts are taller than they look.

Not going to work, so you might as well throw that idea out unless you want to stare at it.

There mounts are shorter then those but there body shape is allot different anyways

No additional photos, because I was experimenting. I tried a few different things in the past. Including mounting to the front bumper, which didn't look right either. Set it on your hood, even if you make it lower profile, and mount the base on the passenger side, you're still going to have a huge obstruction staring at you. Doubly so if you bought the cover for the base to protect it from the elements.

I agree I could have beefed up my mount a lot like Kyle. I was a HiLift noob (I think I had the first one among the offroading Trailvoy group.) and used their Loc Rac mounts. The bolt that went through the shaft was fine, except I mounted it to the thin aluminum plates on the side of the Surco roof rack. And the bracket at the foot end of the HiLift was ludicrously thin. The entire product is better suited for a vertical jack mounting concept somewhere else on the back of the truck.



Later on, I had it mounted to the beefy threaded mounts on the HitchGate swingaway, and that was fine until I had that shortened and finally built into the new custom bumper. I should see if my brother can adapt the new swingaway design to accept the HiLift again.
