Jerry Cans...

I was surfing the Survival forum on ARFCOM, and ran across these...

They're the german military 20L gas/diesel jerry cans, and the guys swear by them. They are apparently very high quality, and are very hard to kill... And if you order (4), you get a free nozzle... They're $127 shipped for (4) cans and a nozzle.

Just for the record, I don't have a pony in the race, so to speak... Just saw these and read not too long ago that it was getting hard to find good jerry cans, because of the CARB stuff (not selling the NATO cans any more, etc)...

They also have these French "Wine" cannisters, which are basically 10L jerry cans made for wine...

I have two Wedco cans. They are metal cans... so the only issue I've had with them is minor surface spot rust from rubbing with my roof rack. They do NOT leak, which is why they are worth the cost. Only $50 per.



The only problem with the carb compiant cans is the nozzle. I hate using it... so I use a super siphon most of the time (sometimes a little tricky to use...).

I swear by the molded Scepters that I bought pre-ban. I think I have 6 of them - now worth $75-80 each because Scepter (Canada) totally abandoned the US market after the CARB issues. Not just spout and locking issues, but plastic permeability. Since you can drop them out of helicopters, they might also be useful to stack for climbing ledges.

OT Hint: Don't forget your spare can be driven over to help get up a ledge if you don't have bridging ladders.

oooh... so the ones that I posted look to be exactly like the Wedco "pre-CARB" cans, except for the OD green color...

I think at this point, I'm going to rokk the $31.75 per (with a free spout) of the german ones...

...unless there's a good reason not to?

Make SURE you get gasoline canisers. The difference is both the spout color (yellow = diesel, red = gasoline) and the gasket used.

The gasoline will eat away at a diesel gasket and leak. The gasoline gaskets are black, diesel gaskets are orange... I beleive.

I know it's a big deal with the Sceptre cans, because the diesel seal swells and breaks the cap... These are apparently fine, but I am currently seeking a difinitive answer on that...

I do know that with these being the old-style standard military/NATO/European cans, that there are several people who sell the black gaskets for them.

A couple of mine will be used for diesel, anyway, though...

Paint would be fine on the metal wedcos... as long as you sanded well and used a decent paint. Not sure if they are painted or powdercoated from the factory.

Cool James, thanks for the info. I wouldn't mind getting ahold of a holder like that for long trips, etc. Always good to have fuel around when on the trails.

Well, that sealed it!!

I was wanting to order some of these before they're gone, but wasn't wanting too, because of the wife's job situation... She just called me and she got the 37.5/week job for the state, for the next 4 months!! It's a job created by a grant, so it's full time hours, but it's only for the next 4-5 months... It also gets her a foot in the door at IDEM while she's working there!

My order is going in... N-O-W!!!

Her evening job is actually taking coin orders for the US Mint, which she'll probably still keep one or 2 days a week, not only for the extra money, but for the $35/month it saves us on our cell phone bill... Also remembering that if she doesn't get anything REAL in the next 4 months, she'll need to go back to this job with higher hours in 4 months...

Can order, along with the extra gaskets, and extra nozzle is in and on its way (just so I don't COMPLETELY hi-jack my own thread)

No, they're shipped from the US... They're just a german militaria place...

The guys on ARFCOM who have those and also have the older Wedco ones say that they're pretty sure they're made by the same people... Welds are the same, pieces are the same, etc...

If you want 2 cans and a nozzle, I'll split another set with you (minus maybe $10 for the nozzle, which is $18 by itself)

These aren't all for off-roading... Some are for storage for a genset... Power goes out for a day at a time where I am, once a year or so... Nice to keep the freezers cold, phones charged, interwebs, etc...
